0dense: a mottled blue foreground fading into cold white; hail covering a light (Default)
so scheduling worked out that last night was DnD and this afternoon was Changeling, and everything's nerdy as hell but also really, hanging out with people is, astonishingly, miles better for being a person than being super isolated all the time! Breaking news, getting to the part of mental wellness where you've got the energy to be outgoing is super exciting, and it's only taken uhhhhh a decade. but it's working!

otoh, I think my Changeling char is the one who could do with some therapy instead -
  • me: a fireheart who was used as a torture tool in Arcadia
  • the party: doesn't know what exactly I was
  • DM, to the party: So now that you're sucked into this otherworld, the wyrd is reacting to you. It's picking up on the strong feelings you have, and amplifying it. And from your vantage point on these stairs to nowhere, you can look out at the marshland and you see a plume of smoke. Just a little puff, but it's growing quickly, and you see that the tall grasses are being consumed at an incredible rate. There is, in fact, a wall of fire starting to race towards you, and as the smoke creeps before it, you're picking up on the smell of burning flesh.
  • Aloisio, desperate: Wow what a coincidence this all is, I know I activated this portal somehow, there has to be a way to go back right

and then their one friend who they have so much guilt over being forced to torture makes it back to the human world as well, takes one look at me, and runs-
and so they've signed on with the summer court because they seem the most committed to the wellbeing of the most lost of newly-returned changelings, and like. My char has only known the rest of our group for less than a week, vs a small eternity in Arcadia with Tene, teaching her how to read and learning how to be a person - they know she doesn't think well of them but they've gotta do their best to find her, at least! Venice isn't safe, on your own. And as much as Aloisio objects to the system of courts on principle, having come from something with the same name, they need something familiar, at least. And that means Tene.
My longer goal is to, through the Wyrd itself, sue the fae courts for taking advantage of us to impose our contracts in the first place. If there's no opportunity for negotiation, and the terms are not clarified beforehand, and we as signatories were not given the opportunity nor the ability to understand the ramifications of what we were getting into - sure, obviously, that kind of agreement is enforced here. But in the game, let's make-believe in something like justice and fairness, and my will is as strong as yours, and you deserve no power over me!
anyway we'll see how far I get on that lol.

Also, so in Changeling I'm perceptive but socially awkward, from all those eons being treated as a thing, whereas somehow I rolled my DnD char into - and I quote Phil - a beautiful idiot (my storytelling excuse for those rolls is that he's friendly and sincere and not bright enough to realise that not everyone else is too). But at the end of the day, they're opposite builds and playing them back-to-back is weird in the best way!
