hi dreamwidth! long time no blogging, but I'm not the greatest at running two accounts at once it does seem. but I'm still kicking and hope everyone's well :) In latest from planet Eric, today I did laundry, taxes, and signed up to give blood! And yes, I'm almost positive I'll have health insurance shimmies soon, but sending the taxes in was instantly SUCH a weight off my mind. tbh I've been feeling myself get snappier lately, likely due to the stratospheric uptick in bullshit from the white house, so I'm trying to keep an eye on that and my personal grumpiness down.
also for keeping a mental even keel: since my last on dw, I've taken up ice skating and it's so much fun! I love having a workout routine back in my life :) I figured out linear crossovers last week and it's so exciting to string things together :D I spent my first like, six whole months on the ice just doing laps of strides, to build up for a 5k (which: I did my first 5k in any medium! the scott hamilton 'sk8 to elimin8 cancer'!) but now it's a blast to switch things up; plus being able to pick my feet up like this will totally make me feel safer practicing stops and other jukes that would put me off-balance before. But I don't think formal lessons are in my cards in the near future, just by boring virtue of schedules, for general learn-to-skate, and the gear price tag for hockey skills. I also don't know if I want to join a league - yes, of course I think it would be fun, and I have a friend in league rugby who's having just such a good time as well, but the locker rooms and gender of it all, you know. I pass well enough for the bus or the shops or in line at the bank, these days, but, well. So we'll see what it's like after moving!
but for now in spring news, I scooped up the first run of potatoes! we had them as home fries and it was delicious :) went to the garden with oolong and came back with dirt boba lmao*
I'm also hoping that the car will work again soon so that I can go down and get a fresh load of dirt. One of the potato plant's leaves were looking weird, and I've never rotated crops so it's probably time to donate this earth to the rest of the yard and start fresh.
Speaking creatively, I've already dropped three ficlets into the fic ocean this year :) all of them for fic fests; it's such a good feeling to write for someone, you know? whether or not it's a known person or a general prompt from the rest of fandom! Some parts of it are extremely stressful lately, but I'm knocking wood that it'll calm down over the summer. And regardless, there are particular pods and folks that I really love and want to stick with; I think I can figure out at least one more fic for this season, and then there's a fresh run of fests being dealt as well.
also creatively: it's my turn to lead our round-robin monster of the week again! it's SO much fun lmao; I think I've come a long ways in my DMing but it's so funny to see where I do drop the ball. I spent like all night before session re-writing and filling in gaps in my decision-trees, only to forget things like 'what year is this set, again' and 'what's the name of this school, by the way' XD so there's always a dose of tap-dancing going on. but it's so cool to feel the story grow past my own misgivings, you know? sure, the game as it's being played doesn't match my first map of Find Tool X In Location A Through Dialogue With C, but it doesn't need to. it's working because the players have it in hand! Which is a fantastic contrast with my creative writing; I know I can be demanding with myself, so the group improv is really good for staying narratively flexible.
Tomorrow's plans: garden work, skate, groceries, cooking. Menu depends on what looks good at the shops, but it's just one more week of lent and then I'm going right back to that slow-cooked balsamic chicken, for sure!
