0densemy live playlist for the tag that grew into my Trophy boys :) it isn't in a narrative order, so I threw some notes on

1) I hate myself for loving you - joan jett and the blackhearts
Fraught relationship with something important to you!! Natch!!

The actual first thing I knew about anyone in this OC set would be TBIs.
2) Heard somebody cry - oingo boingo
Looking for my vibes in general
I thought I heard somebody cry—I thought I'd go and see
I thought I heard somebody cry—somebody might be me
3) Running on a treadmill - oingo boingo
Still workshopping vibes. The rat race of the gig, etc.
4) Fool’s paradise - oingo boingo
A bit ambiguous. Setting my vibes.
5) Lightning - oingo boingo
For Colin: the generational disconnect and inherited poor decisions.
For Andy: making his mark on two generations of Taylors
And for Emil: he left the Devils because he didn’t want to be in exactly the circumstances he finds himself in, in Sunbury. Whoops!
6) Riches and wonders - eliza rickman cover
“I want to go home, but I am home” say my boys who have willingly identified themselves with a huge and unkind beast.
7) One great city! - the weakerthans
Sorry, I know this is a Winnipeg song and I don’t have anything to do with YWG. But I heard this one first while I was thinking really really hard about them, so it lives here.
It’s got to be surreally frustrating to have your face up on a billboard in a city that’s taking the absolute piss, though.
8) Opening ceremony - chess
It really doesn't matter who comes out on top, who gets the chop
No one's way of life is threatened by a flop --
But we're gonna smash their bastard
Make him wanna change his name
Take him to the cleaners and devastate him
Wipe him out, humiliate him

Instrumental lol. Take a vibes rest here :)
10) Pity the child - chess
This is the secret sauce that unlocks Emil. It isn’t his actual backstory word for word or anything, but the character ticks me off so well lmao. I think it’s important that he’s not just a victim of circumstance. He is also an asshole and he does have resentment and he should not be only sympathetic. So this song is a reminder to myself!
That being said, yes this is where I scooped ‘parents divorced, devoted himself to the game as a replacement structure’ although they sent him to the rink instead of him locking himself up in a tower, so at least he has social skills.

13) Flying - stan rogers
A gimme. You have to be a dreamer, though.
Colin is slowly understanding why Danny gets sad: the Show broke his best friend and now it’s got teeth in his nephew. Danny wants him to be happy. He wants him to get out. There’s less and less of Rob to want better for Colin, so it’s on Danny, he supposes.
But he remembers flying, too…
14 ) Islands - sara bareilles
Emil pledging himself to becoming untouchable. This fails the instant that he meets Cormac lol, but the org’s betrayal in LA hit him harder than he wants to acknowledge. He’s retreated emotionally, as though it could keep him safe.
15) Hercules - sara bareilles
A bit more Colin, but they both hope that the Storm can be their fresh start. Colin praying to be the warrior he was meant to be; Emil needs to decide on fight or flight.
16) Eden - sara bareilles
Omg I didn’t realise I’d made Emil fit this so perfectly until it came up on my mp3 player while gardening one day lol
LA has a lot going for it. It’s a great sports city, there are those proverbial palm trees everywhere, he’s right in with their cup window - he believes, they all believe, surely Edmonton won’t happen again - and it devolved so quickly.
And because it’s California, if he does talk to people who weren’t there, nine times out of ten someone will be even jokingly incredulous that he’d run into homophobia there too, and boy. He really hates hearing that.
17) I hope I get it - a chorus line (‘75 broadway)
A Colin song, moreso. He’s on the cusp and knows how short his odds are.
Who am I anyway?
Am I my resume?
That is a picture of a person I don't know.
What does he want from me?
What should I try to be?
So many faces all around, and here we go.
I need this job, oh God, I need this show.
18) What I did for love - a chorus line (new cast recording)
Everything ends. I don’t know if Emil will leave with his head high or tail between his legs, but I really don’t see Colin getting another contract. Does love make it better, that they gave so much to this engine? Is what love they got back worth it? But that’s the wrong question - the love came first. They had their time with something beautiful, and it’s time to walk away.
Also though: “I did what I had to do. And then I did a bunch of other stuff, too” lol
19) Atlantic city - bruce springsteen and the e street band (live at first union center)
I know Trophy isn’t about the AHL, but it’s important to Colin! He has a complicated relationship with the AC InsertNameHeres as he tries to stave off the idea that he might not be ‘destined’ for the same long NHL career that Rob and Danny enjoyed (and Andy is still maintaining). Settling is antithetical to the young athlete, but there’s also the reality lurking around the corner that he isn’t a young athlete any more. And is it healthier to appreciate what he does have? That doesn’t have to mean giving up on wanting more, right? How does one outgrow entitlement?
He flips between MEET ME TONIGHT, IN ATLANTIC CITY as a boast and a cry, but he always belts it like mad.
Like this has to be the InsertNameHere’s unofficial team song. Idk if they could get rights to it as an org, but it would go so hard at team karaoke.
20) Storm - phidel
Oh, someone NEEDS to’ve used this for a team fancam in-universe.
I’ll send a storm to capture your heart and bring you home.
In a meta sense, too, because I miss writing Trophy. I don’t think I really nailed it; I don’t know how to unlock RP quite yet right now, but collaborative writing is such a special time. I miss Sunbury, man lol.
PS) Special mention to the album Kroketti, which Emil gets nostalgic about. Yes, his whole analog superiority complex character trait started one time I was listening to ultra bra on the train lmao.
