beautiful thing is, I like my job. I'm so lucky to have the opportunity to be involved with something that I'm invested in, that makes a difference in my community, and that I'm even paid to do. This week we had two workshops and we've got an attorney consultation coming up. It's true, I realised I don't have time to join the asian student union; I don't have time for a social outlet or to make new friends, but it's not like I'm hurting for good people. Today one of out interns came in with horrible congestion, but Director had brought honey to the office and I'd brought a box of tea, and we were able to send the intern home early with a hot thermos. It says law on our business cards, but I think we're a community recourse most of all. It's the office's 75th anniversary next year, and I'm so glad we get to have this door open.

Date: 2019-09-12 05:23 pm (UTC)(re: Yuletide as discussed on Tumblr - the original idea was that it was for fandoms too small to have their own Secret Santa ficathon, and I think Chernobyl fandom is big enough that we totally could have a Secret Santa or other such fic exchange on our own.)
dude I've been kicking this around for the rest of the week and I think it's viable

Date: 2019-09-14 11:24 pm (UTC)- DW for better archiving
- GMT
- distribution date new year's day?
- I have neither ever participated in or run a fic exchange so I have no idea how much work goes on behind the curtain, but it looks simple enough from the outside? and if due dates are all scheduled to be over the weekend (saturdays?), mod/s should have more time to check everyone
- is DW good for communication too? I don't think there's a private group chat for coordination, depending on how many people run it (I really have no idea what sort of scale of responsibilities this would take), but I think that adding something like discord would be spreading things out over too many platforms; tumblr would just be a mirror for the main posts on DW
- also I want to include an historical immunity waiver; by joining this fic exchange, all participants regardless of role make no assumption of historical accuracy / all events described in the fic exchange are meant to reflect the 2019 miniseries Chernobyl and not the 1986 disaster / any similarity to real people, living or dead, is not intended by the participants / something along those lines / etc. I suppose it won't make a "real" difference, as ao3 has our backs for precedent in a great way and anyone online who wanted to start #drama wouldn't care, but I think I would feel better with something like that, so why not throw it in the pot? I don't want to be down on more historically-derived things, bc that's a fine line in any case, but at least a blanket claim of fandom over history gives us some plausible deniability if anything goes sideways. (I do not think we would run into any trouble! I'm just paranoid and am getting used to seeing waivers around at work lol)
how's that sound?? I haven't made a community account before, but I think it's time, right!
:D
