0densedone with my written finals!! I've still got a few administrative irons in the fire but the major exams are done!! what a terrible semester it's been - my thesis project is fucked, my five-year plan is fucked, my gpa is (wait for it) fucked. I'm used to being on the dean's list, guys. I've not been a fan of this. But, it is quite nearly over!
It hasn't all been bad, though - the single most serendipitous moment of the semester was when we had Smallwood v State (dry brief from Lexis, explanation at the Center for HIV Law and Policy, tw rape, serophobia) and I instantly knew how it fit into the timeline of HIV civil rights - this case was tried in 1996, and highly successful treatment had only been promulgated in 1995, so the initial ruling expressed a medical state of affairs that had changed drastically by the time it reached the court of appeals. And now we've got PrEP posters all up in BART, and 50% of PWA are over 50 in San Francisco. That was the stuff of dreams in 1993, and I abhor the initial ruling, but the case started in an entirely different epistemic world. It's been incredibly stressful material, but I am just thrilled to have this ounce of perspective.
Really does make me grok the fact that there's gonna be classes on COVID one day. That's more perspective than I know what to do with.
so in lighter news I made brownies! I've only been baking bread lately, so it's great fun to do dessert again :D I can't wait to bake more, I miss having the bandwidth to make things to share. But it's about to be time to be creative again! There are projects I've been putting off for years that I want to finally reify. I know, I know, pressure to be productive is poisonous in a pandemic (sorry) but it'll really be good for me to see these plans come to life in my hands. So, fingers crossed!
